The establishment is structured as a typical Catalan fonda (inn) of the end of the 19th Century. These were used for changing the animals that pulled carriages. The current dining-room was the old barn and it still preserves the original drinking-trough and manger. Next to this was the carriage-drivers’ dining-room, the village cafeteria and the gentlemen’s dining-room, which was located close to the kitchen to guarantee good service.
At first, the drivers slept in the barn on a straw bed. Later, bedrooms were provided, where the servants slept, then others for the guests. The first guests were schoolteachers sent to the village, who needed somewhere to sleep and eat. Other early guests were the musicians who came for the festivals - Sant Vicenç, a small festival, or Sant Prim i Felicià, the main festival. More bedrooms were later added, which were refurbished over the years to include bathrooms and heating. The last refurbishment was in July 1995 , leaving the hotel with 5 single rooms and 22 double rooms, all equipped with bathroom, heating, telephone and TV, some with air-conditioning.
• 1st floor bedrooms
The bedrooms on the 1st floor are those which already existed when the hotel opened as an inn. Smaller than those on the 2nd floor, they preserve the typical atmosphere of the beginning of the 20th Century, but with the comforts demanded by 21st-Century customers.
• 2nd floor bedrooms
The refurbishment carried out in 1995 basically consisted of converting the second floor of the building into more spacious bedrooms with larger bathrooms, easier access and the same services as those on the 1st floor – TV, telephone and heating. There are rooms with two beds and others with double beds.
Most of the furniture in the rooms is from the beginning of the 20th Century. The photo shows a headboard and bedside table combination which was saved from the fires started by the nationalist troops, when they occupied the Fonda Siqués in 1939.
In the summer of 2002, some of these rooms were provided with air-conditioning.
• Parking
The Fonda Siqués has an non-staffed, open-air car park for customers of the hotel and restaurant, at the foot of the road, with room for twenty vehicles, and very near the historic town centre and the Roman bridge.
On special occasions, this car park can also be used for weddings, baptisms, communions and other events which may be suggested, either in the open air or under marquees.
